Mathematics is not just Formula


Introduction
Actually, mathematics is the science that related to all fields of science such  us physics, chemistry,  biology, technology, social and even cultural and arts. But mathematics is more identic with a field of science that is often associated with physics, chemistry or biology. It is caused by the fact  that learning mathematics needs good reasoning as well as other  sciences. In addition, it has a major influence on the sciences and other disciplines. Because of the magnitude influence of mathematics on other disciplines, it is so natural that mathematics is considered as a very important science.

The importance of Mathematics is showed by the fact that all of the students (from elementary until high school) in the world are obligated to learn it. From the elementary, intermediete, and advance.  Almost all of them know and study it.

            Unfortunately, Mathematics is a rarely desirable disciplines. Most of the students don’t like, fear, and even hate towards mathematics. They feel that mathematics is a science that is full of formula and they are obligated to memorize all of the formulas.  Many formulas  make them lazy to learn mathematics. This assumption is still continuing until now. And the result is that there are only a small number of students in Indonesia interested in mathematics.

            Therefore, we will discuss the reasons that makes Mathematics so feared. Because it is not just  formula and can be applied in real life. Let us look for a solution to solve it.

Discussion
It is  reasonable, when Mathematics is considered a difficult subject. However, actually  there are many special tricks to make this science very easily accepted.
Paradigm that has been attached to the students about Mathematics will have undermine the desires of people who want to make Mathematics is easy. Not only are smart or intelligent people who can solve Mathematics problems but also all people and all student can certainly solve it if they have a strong will.

If the paradigm emerged because the Mathematics is just a group of formula. It was wrong. This is our main problem. The paradigm that mathematics is just formula numbers started from elementary education. Most of the teachers directly introduce a formula for elementary student. So  the first introduction is the first impression. The students have bad suggestion in the first condition. 

The  teachers have to introduce to the students that Mathematics is easy. The first step to make it easy is to love it.  Mathematics will increase when the subject is understood by the students. The understanding will  grow when the teacher teach it well. So it will be better for the teachers begin explaining the origin of the formula before the formula its elf.
For example, A second grade 2 elementary school are introduced that circumference rectangle formula is 2x(p+l) ( two multipied by length plus width). Students is just told to memorize the formula with the previous formulas should they receive. As a result they are confused because they have to  memorize many formulas and eventually many questions is done, There are many problems solved by un-appropriate formulas.
 It caused they are directly given the formula without knowing the beginning of formula.

Rectangle is formed by four sides. Two long sides and two shorter sides. The circumference is the sum of all sides.
 
Then the rectangle around is the two long sides are summed with the two width sides.
 
K= p+p+l+l = 2p+2l = 2*(p+l)
With origins described above, maybe the students wi ll be more understand how the formula was started. So that it becomes a provided formula.
Now lets discuss a more complicated problem. All students will know that the Pythagorean formula is c2= a2+b2. But do they know where does come from the formula? It is not just a formula.


In the picture below, we can see there is a big square (with side length a + b) and a small square (with side length c).

 

Small square area can be obtained by calculating the area of ​​a big square with and reduced with  the shaded  blue area. Note that the area of ​​the blue shaded area is a right-angled triangle drawn previously. We know large of square is s2 (sidexside) and the large of triangle is 1/2ab  (with a is base and b is high).
Small square area = area of ​​the square - (4x wide-angled triangle)
                                              c2 = (a+b) 2 - 4(1/2ab)
                                              c2= a2+ 2ab + b2- 2ab
           c2= a2+b2

That is the origin formula of Pythagorean formula. There are few teachers explain it. The teachers tend to directly give the formula c2= a2+b2 without giving process. The role in delivering Mathematics by teacher has very important influence. So that students will easily understand. So a good teachers that tell the origin of the formula will help early students to  love Mathematics.
Furthermore, mathematics is not just a formula because it also applied in the  real life. Whether we realize it or not. Our activities always related with math.  For example in the trade calculation, without good matematical basic the trader would have huge losses because his mistake when returning the money.
Counting is the largest component of mathematics. The more visible contrast that mathematics is not just  formula. No day without Mathematics in real life. And Mathematics will really exsist in our life.
Moreover, just a few people know that mathematics is also the beginning of the function to make an object. It uses  mathematical modeling. For example, when we in assembling a bomb or a plane or toy guns sophisticated, it takes the form of a differential equation in advance so be a draft and the object is created.
Conclucsion
            Mathematics is very important in our life. It caused mathematics related with all field of sience. 
Firstly,the students  believe that  Mathematics  very dificult to solve because they think that Mathematics is a subjects that full by formulas. So they do not love the Mathematics an fear it.
It comes because in the first introduction of Mathematics by their teacher , they introduce that Mathematics is difficult and it have to be memorize all of the formulas. So, teacher is the main component. They have to tell the student the origin of the formula so the student understand the formula is not just memorize it until sometime they forget it. So a good teacher will tell the origin of the formula will help students to  love Mathematics early. To love the Mathematics and to know  where come from the formula will help us to make Mathematics easy.
Mathematics  is also applied in the  real life. Whether we realize it or not. Our activities always related with mathematics.  For example in the calculation trade.
And mathematics is also the beginning to make  an object  function. It uses  mathematical modeling.
